We first obtained Mr Hussain’s details through Select Tutors when I was in Year 11, and struggling with my GCSE’s. At the time, Chemistry was by far my weakest subject and one I genuinely disliked. Mr Hussain tutored me in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, but more importantly he taught me how to approach learning in a structured and effective way. He had a clear ability to break complex scientific concepts into logical, manageable steps, which made the subjects far easier to understand.

Alongside teaching the science content, Mr Hussain showed me how to revise properly. The revision techniques he taught, structured practice, consistent review and problem-based learning, were the methods I applied across all of my subjects, not just science. The results were immediate and I went on to achieve excellent GCSE grades. I continued with Mr Hussain for A level Chemistry, where his guidance helped me achieve an A grade.

Ironically, the subject I once disliked the most became the field I chose for my career. I went on to study Chemical Engineering at university. Mr Hussain later also tutored my brother, who is now in the fourth year of his medical degree at the University of Liverpool.
